Alexander Farquharson is an artist with 25 years of experience working as both a painter and an illustrator.
As an illustrator, Mr. Farquharson has been published by over 20 publishers nationwide including: Addison-Wesley, Harcourt Brace, Houghton Mifflin, Little, Brown and Company, Macmillan, McGraw-Hill, and Time-Life. His work for educational publishing has focused primarily on history, literature, and social studies, but has also covered science and religion. Juvenile and adult trade publications have been both fiction and nonfiction such as Life of the Plains Indians. Of particular note are the eleven jackets for the mystery novels by Martha Grimes. Another project that displays Mr Farquharson's diversity is the complete illustrations to Honor of the Samurai, a card game put out by Gamewright, Inc.
As an oil painter, Mr Farquharson has primarily worked in landscape and still life themes. His landscapes are both plein air and studio paintings that reflect his love of rural New England. Commissions are wide ranging from portraits, murals, to pen and ink architectural drawings. Mr Farquharson's paintings have been widely displayed in New England including several one person or group shows. In contrast to his naturalistic style are the circular images, an outgrowth of his illustration work and his interest in mythology and science.
